An interactive mental and physical adventure game in which people play a game to escape a room or achieve an objective. Using the elements of the room to solve a series of puzzles, find clues, use minor skill and brain power objectives and escape the room within a set time limit. An adventure based “scavenger hunt” or “mystery” if you will.
No. ALL games are booked privately. This means your group plays each adventure without strangers in the room. Charging a group minimum allowed us to make this change permanent in 2020. Pricing: $29/ player with room minimums.
YES!!!
Reserving ahead is a great idea. To keep your cost as low as possible, We only staff a many rooms as we sell and we only sell as many rooms as we have guests. (Each reservation gets its own game master 99.9% of the time.)
When you know you're coming, we urge you to make a minimum reservation and add extra guests when you arrive.
If you have a group with more players than one room holds, reserve early. If there isn't enough staff, most times with some notice we can call more employees in, send a location float or make some arrangements.
Don't be disappointed. Get those reservations IN! If it's available online you're welcome to reserve it. Let's Play!
Our escape rooms are designed for adults. Young teens have a great time and paid adult guidance is required for all groups with members under 16.
The Recommended minimum age for players joining a group is 9+.
***Our rooms are not designed to accommodate a bulk of players under 13. Younger players have a great time with their families but not in full groups for birthday parties and the like.
AND SOME ROOMS HAVE THEIR OWN RULES! Please check your individual room for guidelines in the description. A few select rooms do not allow children. In these rooms, No exceptions will be made.
We want you to come and have a great time and to allow a group out of these boundaries would not be in alignment with the value strive we offer.
We ask that all children under 4 be kept in a body pack or stroller. Parents are in charge of keeping track of all children. If at any time a game master feels a child's safety is endangered an adult will be asked to exit the room with the child. No refunds will be given. Safety is #1 at TE101.
If your answer isn't here in FAQ, Leave a message!
We will call you back asap! We are a small business and our owner Jennifer or her second in command (and daughter in law) Natasha still answer each and every phone call for all locations. They care about you and your call! If you need a quick answer that isn't here in the FAQ, use our Whatsapp button.
Breathe easy, All “escape” doors have emergency exit means and some of our rooms have objectives other than escape and are left wide open! Many are also left unlocked and the “Escape” is out a secondary door. Our test groups have had participants with pretty severe claustrophobia and have had no problems. We are happy to announce their joy in saying, “It was like I was in any room of my house. I had no problems!” If a member of your team needs to step out time does not stop and your team continues. No Worries! We Gotchu!
Hard: YES. (It wouldn’t be any fun if it were easy!) If you find it too hard, we will be glad to help you through the room with clues and hints. You let us know your objective and we will have you covered, no worries!
Themes: The basic philosophy is that Almost All the information needed to solve the puzzles is designed into the room. Basic knowledge like 2x2 is considered basic knowledge but if you need to know something more specific, like how many points the King is worth in chess, that information is included in the room.
Scary: if there's a fear factor you'll know by the name and description.
Do the clues change?: No. One you've played a particular theme that's it. To have different clues you'll need to play a different theme. Some people choose to play again and just stay silent when they "know things" as not to run the adventure for the rest of their group.
Difficulty and Capacity: We do our best to guide you with basic difficulty scores for rooms. Truthfully, giving each room a difficulty rating is one of the hardest parts. We base the scores on how many puzzles, how many encryptions, how many scenery changes the brain goes through, lighting effects and space. There's one thing we can't count on, that's the people playing the room. There are some groups that come and find some rooms harder than other rooms based on their life experience and group dynamics.
Our suggestion (and the biggest "win/lose" buster) Bring a group of varying ages, backgrounds and thought processes, leave your inner control freak at home and trust the process.
Game length: You will be given 60 minutes to complete each escape the room but please plan your total visit to last approximately 90 minutes from beginning to end. Please plan to spend approximately 15 minutes afterwards for follow-up and Photos! **Late arrivals may forfeit time, fees or both. Please be considerate of others and our staff and show up ready to play on time. (That means powder your nose ahead of time please!)
Available times/schedule: Select your location and any adventure to see the times available. Each location has it's own schedule so please check in and get your booking in ASAP!
No... And yes...
If you've played a theme with Tactical Escape 101 then you've played that theme. We do, on occasion, move rooms between locations but many rooms are custom to their space and only"live" once. It's rare BUT it does happen. If you see, "Tanked" in Rice Lake and see it a year later with the same name, it's the same room! The name will not change if it's the same.
AND
If you've played a similar theme with a different escape brand company the puzzle will not be the same. Every great once in a while there may be some slight similarities but it's rare. Our Puzzle Master, Jennifer and her amazing team make up our games from scratch so, for instance, if you okay a pirate ship game in another city or state it won't be the same as our Pirate adventure, "Kraken's Revenge" in Stevens Point!No... TE101 QnA:
I have a reservation but there’s threat of bad weather. What do I do?
Winter Weather is a part of life here in the Northwoods.
As soon as you know you’ll be uncomfortable please, just let us know. Email, call or WhatsApp... We will get you rescheduled! In the same respect, we don’t want our staff on terrible roads either so we promise the same for you. (It’s why we take an emergency phone number for every reservation!)
It’s all fun, no worries here at tacticalescape101.com
*****Only available in April, May, September and October. Must CALL ahead for this discount.
Be ready to have some FUN but don't make up rules and things. The only "rules" will be given to you in the lobby by your personal game master. If you have a reservation, you have a game master!
Just relax. We do this for a Living! Encourage your teamates and get into it! No one else knows what is going to happen either!
PRO TIP: Encouraging a teamate is the #1 thing you can do to help your team.
Start! Just start! Anywhere is good. So many groups get in the room and stand and LOOK AT ONE ANOTHER... That... is not going to help you. There's no mole, one of your group members is not suddenly going to have all the answers. PRO TIP: Get MOVING!
Explore, collect and assess your NEEDS. What locks are in the room. What is most obvious that you might need?
Seriously, talk it out! It is one of the top things Game Masters say to their groups so I'll start NOW... Talk Talk TALK! The more you say the better. NO IDEA IS A BAD ONE! just talk it out! You might only have it part of the way figured out but someone else may get the rest. Trust me, if you're doing something you shouldn't be... they Game Master will let you know.
PRO TIP: Look for patterns, things that stand out as odd and things that are underlined, bold, capitalized or otherwise highlighted.
If you are more concerned with knowing how everything went during the escape you will probably FAIL. This is the #1 reason we suggest you go to dinner AFTER the escape room! You are about to have a LOT to talk about!
PRO TIP: If someone figures something out what you really need to know is what they USED to do what they did so you know not tot try and use it again.
Who cares if YOU get to complete whatever task is at hand... You are all on the same team and you all have the same objective. If you are frustrated with a lock or task, get some help from your team! Remember R-L-R and ask for help if you need it!
PRO TIP: Remember every lock has. a LINE! If you have the right code in the wrong spot... that lock is NEVER going to open! NEVER.
Many escape rooms limit clues to encourage you to figure it out and be strategic about when to ask for clues. We get it... but You are in charge.
Your game master will let you know if you ask for a clue but really don't need one. I trained them all to be there to rescue you if you want them to or to SHH if you don't. You pay us, so you get to pick. Our "with help" leader board is a goal for team that take 3 clues or less. We also have a leader board at some locations for teams that take NO Help... Do You have what it takes?
PRO TIP: Let you game master know how you feel about what we call "Nudges." They are little helps that keep you on track.
